green office policy
Pellerano & Herrera has embraced the goal of a “Green Office” and regularly introduces policies to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. This initiative has led the firm to assess its current business practices and planning strategies based on ecological principles to reduce waste and the consumption of natural resources.
These environmental strategies, which impact the way we do business and the suppliers we use, include:
1. Reviewing the firm’s procedures and adapting them to meet the goal of resource conservation and to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.
2. Reviewing the efficiency of machinery and equipment to meet ENERGY STAR criteria regarding energy consumption.
3. Working with the firm’s employees on education and awareness regarding the substantive benefits resulting from environmentally-oriented actions and behavior.
4. As part of the firm’s social responsibility, supporting ecologically-valuable projects and solutions and the use of alternative, more environmentally-friendly sources of production than existing ones.
Some of the practices that have been effectively implemented to date include:
Double-sided printing and scanning of documents
BENEFITS:
Reduction in the amount of paper consumed by the firm. Impact on deforestation. Less use of energy, which results in less emission of greenhouse gases and saves money for the firm.
Efficient equipment and energy consumption
BENEFITS:
Office equipment (printers, fax, scanners, copiers) meet the ENERGY STAR criteria for minimum energy consumption.
Hibernation mode and turned off. Energy management applications (EMO – Energy Management Software; EMCO remote shutdown)
BENEFITS:
When equipment is going to be inactive for a substantial period, putting it into hibernation mode saves energy; at 8 p.m., computers that are not in use are switched off automatically. Less use of energy results in less emission of greenhouse gases, and saves money for the firm.
Auto-Lock of documents in the printer
BENEFITS:
To avoid excessive and uncontrolled use of paper in non-used printouts, documents are sent to a printer where only the user can authorize their printing. This means a reduction in the amount of paper consumed in the firm, saving money for the firm and having a positive deforestation impact.
Replacing monitors using new standards for flat panel displays.
BENEFITS:
Flat screen monitors are more efficient in power consumption than traditional standard monitors.
Servers, Monitors
BENEFITS:
We use the most power-efficient server management available. We are withdrawing items from use that are not efficient, according to established standards.
Lighting
BENEFITS:
Use fluorescent lighting, low energy, and LED devices in places where this type of light is appropriate. We make less and less use of incandescent light.
Air Conditioning
BENEFITS:
We have replaced old units with new units that support modern efficiency standards and use a special coolant for these purposes.
