SANTO DOMINGO.- While Dubai Sheik Mohamed Bin Zayed al Nahyan yesterday pledged his government’s efforts to solve Dominican Republic’s energy problem once and for all, back home violent protests across the country has led the population to despair. In a meeting with president Leonel Fernandez, Abu-Dhabi Government prime minister Zayed al Nahyan, who’s also the United Arab Emirates crown prince, made firm investment commitments in the Dominican Republic in the areas of renewable energy, distribution, and in the construction of a hydroelectric. During a more than one hour meeting in the Royal Palace, the United Arab Emirates crown prince was interested in knowing the problems that most affect Dominican Republic, where Fernandez began his third term in office less than three months ago. The constant blackouts of up to 20 hours and increasing demands of basic public works and services has led the country to social a tension that the sociologist Tahira Vargas says is "difficult" for governance. "The Government is taking a risk by not taking measures as soon as possible." Source: dominicantoday.com |
