Tourism in DR requests reduction in airport fees

Santo Domingo. 11/12/08.- The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), Francisco Javier Garcia, has begun conversations with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) and Grupo Punta Cana, in an effort to establish favorable incentives to the competitiveness of the Dominican tourism sector.

The Minister of Tourism offered the information, after meeting with Peter Rowe, director of Overseas Airports Management of the company TUI Airline, with whom he evaluated a possible incentive program designed to reduce airport fees in the country, as stated by a communication distributed by Sectur.

It is important to emphasize that Tui Airlines currently manages six European airlines operating in the Dominican Republic from Belgium, France, Netherlands, England, Germany and Sweden.

On the same note, Francisco Javier Garcia has met with Lawrence R. Elliot, vice president of Business and Corporate Affairs of Sun Wing, one of the major tour operators in our market in Canada, who announced the opening of a new flight from the Canadian province Sept Illes to Puerto Plata, which will start operating next week.
