SANTO DOMINGO.- The Agriculture Minister, Amílcar Romero, revealed that farming authorities are working in the preparation of 22 agricultural lines to enter the Free Trade Agreement with Central America and United States, (DR-CAFTA).
Romero announced the opening of a specialized office next week which will provide detailed information about DR-Cafta to national producers.
He assured that in the matter of tropical vegetables and fruits, the Dominican Republic possess the capacity to compete in the international markets.
Amilcar Romero said that the Dominican Republic produces mango, avocado, guanábana, pineapple and other good quality fruits with ample capacity to compete with the products produced by the countries that comprise DR-CAFTA.
Romero said the great variety of vegetables produced in the country have a great opportunity in United States markets as indicates a note from the Information and Public Relations Department for the agricultural portfolio.
He indicated that United States production sources are limited by climatologic conditions as cold weather and snow, reason why, some markets in that nation are out of provisions at one time or other during a year’s time.
