SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Government will submit to the National Congress a bill to implement the Free Trade Agreement with the United States and Central America DR-CAFTA, to save the conflicts which to date have prevented its taking effect, announced yesterday the director of the National Planning Office (ONAPLAN).
Guarocuya Féliz spoke to the press after a meeting with a International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical mission, which is in the country evaluating the implementation of the institutional reforms contained in the agreement signed with the country.
He said that the legislation will be submitted to the chambers once the ordinary legislature begins, next the August 16.
Féliz and the Industry and Commerce Ministry’s Foreign trade director Vilma Arbaje headed the Dominican mission that was in Washington for more than two weeks, discussing with the American authorities DR-CAFTA’s implementation.
Dominican Republic could not enter into the treaty last July 1, as scheduled, due to the United States’s demand so that the presentation of proof is established in the country on non-disclosed data in the matter of marketing pharmaceutical products, according to what the authorities have said.
