Santiago.- Entrepreneurs visiting this city from Puerto Rico made public their interest in initiating business exchanges with the Dominican Republic, and hence benefit from great opportunities that the country is to offer in light of the Free Trade Agreement with Central America and the United States (DR-CAFTA).
The business persons indicated that merchants and industrialists from southern Florida would also be interested in learning about the different Dominican goods that could be placed in the United States, Puerto Rico and Central America, given the advantages to be garnered by the commercial treaty..
Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce representatives Belkis Ramirez and Leonardo Garcia assured that the neighboring island markets would be interested in furniture, mahogany doors, decorative accessories and metal items used in construction such as steel.
They considered that the Dominican Republic possesses an extraordinary potential in the industrial and commercial field, fomenting among “Puerto Rican investors a marked interest in benefiting from this market with the facilities that will open as DR-CAFTA is implemented.”
The two entrepreneurs said that, aside from benefiting from the DR-CAFTA treaty, Puerto Rican investors are exploring general investments in the Dominican industrial sector.
