Santo Domingo.- Dominican Industrialists Association president Yandra Portela today decried that the local government has limited its information relative to discussions ongoing in Washington, as a prelude to entering the Free Trade Agreement with Central America and the United States.
“First and foremost, unfortunately, the government has limited to a great degree information on the events in Washington,” Portela affirmed during a radio interview.
She went on to say that the latter indicates that the United States is “making [DR-CAFTA] pretty hard-to-get.”
All indications are that, apparently, there are many small details and requests that the U.S. is demanding for the country to enter the trade accord.
“The truth is that the Dominican Republic and its negotiators headed by Vilma Arbaje are not having the greatest time,” she stated.
Portela added, “The situation in Washington, is not an agreeable one for the Dominican Republic. Yet it must be said that the country has done its best, and that the situation has not been created by us.”
