Santo Domingo.- A delegation from the United States embassy headed by Hans Hertell, was interviewed yesterday with Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez, in pursuit of approval for pending legislation necessary for implementing the Free Trade Agreement with Central America and the United States (DR-CAFTA).
After meeting for almost an hour, the U.S. ambassador stated that “in due time, we will be disclosing to the country the status of the FTA, but we are confident that in the near future, we will be announcing implementation of the accord.”
Among the principal measures demanded by the United States is that which relates to regulating purchases of goods and services by the Dominican State.
Also, Hertell alluded to the energy crisis, which he said Dominicans must resolve.
He added that the Agency for International Development (AID) has contributed in formulating a strategic plan for the energy sector.
