Santo Domingo.- Dominicans exporters will not have to adjust prices of their goods to U.S. business offers, because the country will be exonerated from ‘Buy American Act’ that governs commercial activity with countries outside of the DR-CAFTA accord.
Laura Rojas, international consultant for the Organization of American States, affirmed that non-applicability of the Buy American Act is one of the most important advantages of the treaty signed by the Dominican Republic with the United States and Central America, currently in final stages of the implementation process.
The consultant recommended to the Dominican government that it should create programs to identify business opportunities that the United States government offers to signatory countries of the DR-CAFTA and hence inform national productive sectors of prospective commercial openings.
Se recommended that the Dominican Republic should explore products demanded in the U.S. market announced through the Internet. She cited the webpage ‘Federal Business Opportunities’, a site in which all purchases above US$25 thousand dollars must be made public.
