Dominican lower Chamber passes Free Trade bills

Santo Domingo.- During yesterday’s session, deputies approved legislation needed to implement the DR-CAFTA free trade pact.

The legislation will be revised and corrected for the Executive to sign into law.

The approved package contains modification of Law 20-00 on industrial property, which harmonizes it with Chapter 15 of the trade treaty. Also approved were issues relative to copyrights and patents, enforcing penalties.

Law 65-00 on copyrights was revised to synchronize procedures by which to enforce the law. The General Telecommunications Law was reformed to allow for simultaneous administrative and judicial actions with regard to satellite signals violations.
