Santo Domingo.- The National Trade Negotiations Commission executive secretary, Julio Ortega, cautioned that the triumph of the Democratic Party in the Mid-term elections held recently in the United States, could delay implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with that nation and Central America (DR-CAFTA).
He founded his concern on strong opposition manifested by Democrats in Congress against the DR-CAFTA. “Though [the treaty] has already been ratified by U.S. authorities, we must be on the alert until it is implemented,” he said.
He called the Dominican Republic and Central America to closely watch the policy with respect to the Free Trade Agreement to be assumed by a new Congress dominated by a Democrat majority.
He even predicted that nations already implementing the trade accord could suffer setbacks.
