Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic occupies the eighth slot among countries that could have access to resources from the Objectives of the Milennium (MCC) Funds during the 2007 fiscal year.
The Dominican ambassador in Washington, Flavio Dario Espinal, stated that the Dominican government is undertaking contacts so that the country may access these resources.
The report on the authorization for such provision to assist countries that enter agreements with the United States placed the Dominican Republic in the eighth position.
Such funds are meant to help countries in programs that forge progress, economic growth and poverty reduction.
“We are trying to focalize efforts into improving some of the indicators, so that the Dominican Republic may with certainty access these funds. We hope it will be this year, but if not, next year,” said Espinal, who manifested optimism in this regard.
Countries ahead of the Dominican Republic are: Albania, Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cape Verde and Colombia.
