Santo Domingo.- Foreign Trade director Vilma Arbaje clarified yesterday that results of the Congressional elections in the United States have no bearing on the free trade United States (DR-CAFTA), because when the agreement was ratified, implementation was also approved, “by which the Congress handed over the process to the United States president’s office.”
The implementation law denominated “Fast-track” determines in Section 101b) that “when the president of the United States determines that countries have assumed the requirements necessary for implementing the agreement…, the president is authorized to validate the agreement with those countries that have taken the necessary measures.”
Yesterday, the Trade negotiator under the Foreign Relations Ministry had informed that the United States elections results could affect implementation of the Free Trade Agreement.
