Santo Domingo.- The Free Trade Agreement with Central America and the United States (DR-CAFTA) will suffer the third delay. The accord will not be implemented by January 1st, as expected, because U.S. trade authorities have requested corrections on two issues of the recently approved tax reform regarding vehicle imports.
The Dominican Industry and Commerce Ministry promised that the pertinent corrections will be made forthright.
Dominican authorities had forged expectations that the DR-CAFTA would be implemented as of the 1st of January, especially given Industry and Commerce’s announcement that the country had made pertinent revisions to laws and rules as part of the Dominican State's commitments to the trade deal.
